Travel Workshops - Women Traveling Solo

Brave the World - Alone!

Women Traveling Solo Traveling alone as a woman can be a powerful, emboldening growth experience. However, safety is always a consideration and some prep work before you go will help you make the most out of your journey. Women traveling on their own inevitably face some additional cultural issues and safety concerns. This workshop showcases that it is possible to be adventurous without taking undue risks.

Do you embrace the idea of traveling alone? Planning to get there is part of the fun. This workshop provides tips for a safe and successful trip. Come learn and explore information to help you with planning your lifetime adventure. The following topics will be covered during the workshop:

  • Cultural Issues – what issues do women face in cultures that have gender roles that differ from our own?
  • Accommodations – Advance reservations and getting on-the-spot lodging.
  • Travel Documents – Documents you need to successfully travel from country to country, and others you simply want to have with you “just in case.” This session will also cover advance planning to assure you have your documents in time.
  • Packing for Travel – Beyond “PACK LIGHT”: how to carry your stuff, what to take with you, and what not to take.
  • Safety – Medical and health issues, protecting your documents, and personal safety considerations.
  • Transportation – Transportation options for getting you to where you’re going as well as once you get there.
  • Money – How much will it cost? What form and how should you carry it? What about exchanging money?
  • Responsible Travel/Intercultural Education – Hostelling International philosophy of travel and how to be a true global citizen. Tips on how to travel with an open mind and heart.
  • Resources – Identify and review some resources for getting more information.

  • Women Traveling Solo is a resource workshop and admission is FREE. You can attend these workshops at some of local outdoor stores such as R.E.I. and universities such as University of Portland and Portland State University. Check our Events Calendar for our workshop schedule.
